Project Development and Finance

Ever since the privatization drive during the 1990’s and the most recent flurry of economic activity, Panama’s infrastructure has been in continued development. Initially, most projects concentrated in energy (principally hydroelectric facilities) but most recently have included roads, water and sewage, hospitals, marine facilities, airports, oil storage and transportation, most notably the expansion of the Panama Canal.

Morgan & Morgan has been active throughout this period, assisting developers and creditors, both local and foreign (including multilaterals), in all phases permits, construction and financing.

The foregoing has required that Morgan & Morgan’s attorneys acquire considerable experience in the various aspects of these operations, including the adaptation of international legal structures to local laws and regulations, drafting of construction contracts (including EPCs) and setting up complex security and collateral structures.
